Product Data Management for Philips Consumer Electronics Eindhoven - since 2001

The component database manages component configurations and supports the process from product concept to parts manufacturing and servicing.

As such it is fundamental to the manufacturing and support process for the Consumer Electronics branch of Philips.
The PDM application contains component configuration/workflow rules, it keeps track of product configuration versions and history, and it keeps track of errors and problems regarding products.

TenForce did the architecture, design, development of new modules and the operations.
We resolved performance issues on existing modules. We used .NET and J2EE technologies (as specified) to implement the required specifications.

Other techniques used for this implementation are Oracle, Java Spring (middleware), Hibernate (object/relational mapping). This suite of applications is rolled out globally (Europe, China, US, Singapore, Internet gateway), and has to be fully operational 24/24 – 7/7. At its height the 5 TenForce engineers were working for Philips.

Currently TenForce is maintaining that solution.

TenForce Execution - Project Management Methodology - 2007

Argenta is the 5th Belgian bank.

TenForce was – together with Argenta staff and an external consultant – responsible for shaping the Argenta Project & Portfolio Management Methodology. This was the preparation for supporting that methodology in the TenForce pragmatic project management software solution.

Starting from an overall vision, based on ITIL, COBIT and Prince2 we started by streamlining the operational processes. Most important items realized in this domain were:

  • Clear definition, acceptance & finalization of work assignments.
  • Always up to date status to (internal) customers
  • Visibility on all the work for team members, management and (internal) customers.

On this project operational foundation the program and project management methodology could be built:

  • Projects are part of a program. Programs fit into corporate objectives.
  • Definition of a project portfolio dashboard based on operational results.
  • Implementation of the project management methodology; synchronized with the Software Development Lifecycle methodology. This last one materialized in MS Project Templates.
  • Implementation of the project management process with the essential meetings, risk and issue management.
  • Management dashboard that give visibility on planned, actual, performance, efficiency and quality.

Most important advantages:

  • Visibility on all activities on all levels of the organization.
  • Absolute clarity on what to work on and what not.
  • Central overview of all project activities.
  • Excellent up-to-date status reports.

To improve the project delivery of customized solutions TenForce introduced the pragmatic project management approach.
The project management team received an introduction to Prince2, PMBoK, scrum and some other project methods.

This theoretical foundation was then used to assess the level of the project management team.

As a result of this assessment it was decided to work on the following areas:

  • Increase the knowledge of the design and manufacturing process.
  • Build a project plan template.
  • Introduce follow up methods.
  • Increase the ability of the project managers to fix process & collaboration issues within the company.

Through additional workshops in collaboration with the QA responsible the project managers acquired better insight into the design and manufacturing processes. This knowledge was vital to build a decent project plan template.

Together with other departments a proposal for status follow up has been introduced.

Finally TenForce assisted the project managers in the follow up of their projects.
