Manufacturing Upgraded #4: to the vaccination station!

30 · 8 · 2018

Summer is coming to an end, but just because the heat will no longer be an issue, doesn’t mean that there aren’t other things to watch out for. Read on to find out what you can do to prepare for flu season, how to manage the most common warehouse safety hazards, and more!

Flu season: to vaccinate, or not to vaccinate

James Davis on EHS daily advisor conducted an interview with Dr. Jocelyn Sivalingam to find out some workplace strategies to minimize the risks of flu outbreaks. Not everyone wants to get vaccinated – people think it might cause the flu, or that they’re not at risk of getting it in the first place – but the best way to prevent an outbreak is still to have people get that vaccine! Other prevention strategies include strict hygiene habits, such as regular hand washing and spreading out workstations. Overcrowded workplaces are germ breeding farms, so spread everyone out a little more. If employees do get sick, it’s crucial that there is a good sick leave policy in place so they can stay home and recover without any worry. Click here to find out more, and to prevent the flu from spreading in your workplace!

Using tech to improve worker posture

Body tracking technology has been a staple in the world of professional sports for years to analyze movements and get to peak performance. This same technology is now applied by Ford, in Valencia’s engine assembly plant, to improve workplace health. Repetitive stress injury is common on the assembly line, where the same motions are repeated day after day. With the results of this tracking technology, the plant has made small adjustments to workstations, and they have experts give individual advice to each employee on how to correct their posture. These minute changes may seem meaningless, but it means the difference between living injury-free or having years of back problems. Ian Hart on SHP tell us more, check it out and see how Ford is stepping up their game for employees’ health.

Managing warehouse safety hazards: an infographic

Just about any warehouse has safety hazards right around each corner, and it can be difficult to maintain a clear overview. Kunal Shah on Manufacturing.net shows us a neat infographic with the most common hazards, and some great solutions, all in a visually appealing way. Definitely something to print out and plaster on warehouse walls to remind everyone to take care of their health and safety, to use the right equipment, and to communicate well. Check it out here!
